At the Lake

For my family, thrift store shopping isn't just a way to get cheap things. It's practically a religion. And when I go home, I have to always go at least once to my favorite Goodwill. I will ravenously thrust back hanger after hanger looking for the perfect pieces hidden on the rack. My mom and I will pile mountains of clothes in our buggy and then try it ALL on. It's time consuming but we've got it down to a science. So when I put this little white number on, my mom said, "Oh, you'll get a lot of use out of that. You'll love it." I was thinking of wearing it over my swim suit or for beach days. But when I bought a beige-colored slip to use with some of my finicky skirts, it occurred to me I could wear it under the dress and I could wear it ANY day!

The tradition in Singapore for Chinese New Year is to go through your house and get rid of old things you don't need and clean everything. Very similar to spring cleaning but in preparation for their new year. I've been doing that and when I was going through all my unorganized jewelry, I found this necklace. I made/designed it a couple years ago and can't believe I could have forgotten about such a lovely piece. I paired it with this fantastic set of bracelets my friend got me. When I opened the packaging and pulled it out, I said, "Ohhh. This is so perfect for me." Her response? "I know." Lol! I love when my friends know my taste. :)

Grandma Chic

This is another post that I promise I was trying to make fall-like. I have the most perfect boots that I wanted to wear with this dress but alas, these gorgeous Guess boots are waiting for me in the U.S. 

I also don't own another cardigan to throw over this. Guess my chilly-wear posts will have to wait until I'm home for Christmas! 

When I saw this dress at the thrift store I thought, Is this ugly or cute? The bodice is definitely weird, especially with the ruffles sitting on my hips. The dress reminds me of the late 80's/90's when everything was country chic. My mom is an interior decorator and I remember looking through all her decor magazines as a kid with photos of florals sofas and wicker furniture. Even how the skirt button ups reminds me of the 90's. In the end, I decided I liked it.

Going On A Safari

Apparently, wherever the safari is, it's to the left where I keep looking in all these photos. 

I bought this dress the last time I was in Target. That is, summer 2013 aka the year of the high-low-hem. HOLY MOLY. Literally everything was a fish-tail hem in Target; I'm pretty sure I saw yoga pants that were high-low. Suffice it to say, it's never been my favorite trend. Especially when the high is  like… lady-bits high. But luckily, Target did this dress right. I like that it's more high-low maxi dress than high-class hooker, low-class hooker. What do you think of the trend?

Either way, Target you're still my BFF. I'm going home for Christmas and cannot wait to be shopping in good ol' USA.

Go To The Beach

You maybe have seen me wear this dress before for work but obviously this time, I've styled the dress a lot different. Thailand is the perfect place to bring a long maxi to throw on. I love how versatile this dress is just by how I can tie the halter. And lemmie tell ya, this thing is so comfy it should be illegal; the last thing you wanna be on vacation is uncomfortable. But even with comfort, I still felt like a goddess wearing it - especially next to these amazing turquoise waters!

All Tied Up

Just so y'all know, I LIVE in this dress. I saw it in the window in a boutique in Bali and the color combination of mint, lavender and navy just drew me in. I also love how it ties and gathers at the neck (did you get my clever two-fold pun for my title? tied at the neck; tie dye?!) I styled it with a wide leather belt and a ballet-inspired shrug to make it work appropriate but I plan on doing a blog post soon about how I usually wear it - kaftan style. When I bought the dress (on impulse) I didn't plan on how versatile this dress actually is.

4th of July

4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Who doesn't like putting on little sundresses and grubbing out to hamburgers, hot dogs and American beer? Back home, my friends and I always go to Marietta Square where they rope off the streets and set up food vendors. We'd tailgate on the parking deck, staking our claim for the perfect spot to see the fireworks show. *Siiiiiigh* Sometimes, it's hard not being home. Summer is my favorite time of year to be in Georgia and it just can't be perfectly recreated anywhere else in the world. Not sure what we'll do in Singapore tomorrow; perhaps there will be some intriguing festivities going on.

Why don't more people wear scarves like this? I've always loved square scarves (any shape really) but wearing them in my hair makes me feel like they're going to slip off any minute, even with an army of bobby pins. I saw Elsie from A Beautiful Mess and I thought, "Yessss. I'm doing that, too." I'm gonna bring it back.
