Shhhh… don't tell anyone but I originally bought this dress to wear as a night gown. On the rack it was a $3 unexciting baggy thing but it looked uber comfortable and I liked the color. But after wearing it around the house, I started liking how it hung so effortlessly on me and had great movement. So I put on some wedges, a killer statement necklace and bam! I'm ready for a summer day//night out. But shhh… I still wear it to bed, too.

Aussie Style

Moving to Singapore introduced me to something I wasn't expecting: Australia. It's the nearest trend-setting, large, English-speaking country to Singapore so naturally there's a lot of imports from Down Under. I also instantly (though sadly, temporarily) got a coworker, a roommate, and a good friend all three from Australia. It's been an education I've really enjoyed for many reasons but obviously the primary reason is always about style. I think Man Repeller says it best (although not the only media entity to notice their style recently): 

"They’ve mastered the art of looking cool... but Australians do laid-back differently... beach-aware if not somehow permanently beach-ready. Oddly enough their mode of dress seemed to reflect their personalities just as easily as their tans absorbed the sun. Good style seemed inherent. It wasn’t calculated, just ingrained."

I mean, helloooo who doesn't want that?

I'm not saying I've mastered it by any means but I'm starting to get a taste of what Singapore is going to teach me satorialistically (I don't think that's technically a word). Korea taught me how to feel comfortable in mini skirts and blazers and how to be unapologetic about wearing incredibly feminine and dressy attire to the grocery store. Singapore might teach me how to dress boldly but with ease and effortlessness. At least that is the goal. 

Another thing I've picked up from being in Singapore is two of my favorite Australian imports (no, it's not Veggiemite). It's Cotton On and Lovisa. Cotton On only has the most suburb (and cheap!) basic tees like this one pictured (I'm starting a pretty vast collection). Lovisa is a funky accessory store who has knock-out clearance sales, like when I bought this necklaces for $9!

Mall Bohemian

Singapore is full of malls, malls, and more malls. Everything is in the mall - the post office, the library, hair salons, massage parlors, dentists... When the weather is hot, humid and rainy year round, Singaporeans want to escape into the cool breeze of the aircon. In fact, there are three malls just near my work alone. And it's t-r-o-u-b-l-e. When I pop in to grab some lunch, I'm always  eyeing something I want. As a shopping addict, Singapore is a big candy store for me and it's so hard to say no! 

Luckily for me, I'm also a frugal spender. I kept visiting this dress and hemming and hawing about the $25 price tag (which is silly, I know. It's not that much but hey, things can add up quickly when you live in the most expensive city in the world!) Finally, I just had to buy it. 

Especially when one of this spring's trends is bohemian. After seeing Modcloth's instagram, Forever 21's instagram, and Free People I just had to jump on board, too. I threw on all my turquoise jewelry (can't get enough of it!) brown belt, flower in my hair and voila! Pretty dern easy. The cool thing about this dress is because it's white it's duh-obviously so versatile. My bf said the dress looked Great Gasby-esque, too. Might be giving that style a go for next time!

Crisp and Classic

A little while back I was asked to participate in an educational video for my university. For the past year, I've been teaching an extra curricular English conversation class in the evenings for the flight attendant majors. That's right! In Korea, there's a whole university major for being a flight attendant. Once you've flown with a Korean airline though, it makes total sense - the flight attendants are excellent! So the purpose of this video was to adveritse about this class to incoming students. I, of course, played myself and because the sound didn't matter, my students and I got to be really goofy hamming it up for the camera. 

So this is the outfit I chose to wear for the video. Something professorial but still fashionable and fun. I've been dying to wear this gorgeous pale blue sweater ever since pulling out my winter clothes. The small knit-work and the color is so feminine and sweet. I decided to continue the theme with my crisp white shirt buttoned all the way up, my silver feather necklace, and kitten heels. And I love this skirt - y'all know how I love chiffon fabrics and this geometric pattern is really the deciding factor that made me buy it.
