In the Wild

My mom has a serious jewelry collection. Especially necklaces. It covers a wall of her rather large walk-in closet. It's a thing of beauty; one that I raid every time I'm home. We had so much fun pulling out ALL of the accessories that could possibly go with this Southwestern-styled poncho and photo shoot.

All Bundled Up

Yesterday I woke up to snow falling and I was so excited to finally to do a winter wonderland photo shoot. But by the time I was able to run outside, the snow had melted on the pavement and had stopped flurrying. So here's my (doctored) version.

When I did see all the snow falling in the morning, though, my first thought was, "Oh, crap! What in the world am I going to WEEEAR?!" and I sent myself into a panic.
I don't think this Georgia girl will ever really get used to snow.

So I grabbed the warmest thing I had - this gray, wool sweater-dress.  When I first put on the gray sweater-dress, my first reaction was, "oh, wow. That makes me look mega curvy. I don't know..." Especially since I've been wearing a lot of black lately (all my sweaters are in dark colors, I don't know why!) I wasn't used to seeing me in gray. But then I thought,  "That's stupid. I AM curvy. It will keep me warm and I like it." This was the first time I wore it and MAN, it's so warm! I decided to walk a little in the snow when the flurries were coming on strong and while my knees were chilly, the rest of me wasn't. I was impressed.

I figured because of the light color of the sweater-dress, I would continue with this winter's biggest trend - winter pastels. So I threw on my pink hat and (what color is this?!) sea foam suuuuuuuper-long-amazing-scarf. The extra little touch in keeping with the cute, sweetness of it all was my gray bow belt - one of my favorites! I don't wear it as much as I would like; I think in part because the color gray as an accessory throws me off for some reason.

Now while I just "threw on" my darling pastel knitwear, the things under my outfit I most definitely did NOT just throw on. I hiked up - with a lot of effort, I might add - a pair of tights, thick pair of stockings, and thick socks all before putting on my thick black leggings. I also have on a tank top, and long sleeve shirt under my sweater-dress - all carefully tucked into the various tights and leggings in according to Lindsey's method of winter wear OCD. But the long sleeve shirt wasn't just for extra warmth - the wool is a little scratchy so it helped with that.

What tips do you have for winter layering? I'm always learning!

Faux Leather Leggings and Military Jacket for Errands in the Rain

I can't tell you how please I am with how this outfit turned out. To be honest, it was supposed to be a just a "throw on" kinda deal. I was running errands and needed something comfortable to wear without getting soggy in the rain (if you look closely, in some of the photos you can see rain drops).

I hadn't worn these faux leather leggings yet and it was finally cool enough to do so. These things are awesome! They're faux leather in the front, and thick cotton in the back - roomy enough for my booty and lets my legs breathe. Man, you don't even realize how much the faux leather keeps in heat!

This summer when I was checking out at DSW, we saw these hanging with the other leggings. I didn't try them on in the store and I was really nervous if they would fit or even look nice. And honestly, leather on my short stump legs? I wasn't convinced. But my mom convinced me to get them (thanks, Mom!) and I'm glad I did! I can't wait to style them with other things.

For styling this time around, I just threw on my chambray top to keep it casual. The military jacket, hiking booties,  strong silver jewelry, and braids all organically came together to create this tough, outdoorsy kind of look. I love it. It's not something normally I go to but it was refreshing to wear something more masculine than I'm used to. It was also fun to wear three huge fall trends together, too: leather, military-inspired, and chambray.

How would you style faux leather leggings?

Casual Skulls and Stripes on a Lazy Sunday

This past Sunday was a pretty lazy day which was perfect. We had a huge Saturday helping with a zombie charity run (pictures to come) and then a friend organized a scavenger hunt birthday party. So I wanted to keep my clothes easy and comfortable the next day. I kept the color palette simple but played with patterns. I love the ease and movement of the tank top tunic and long cardigan. Both items skim over my curves just in the right way. The tank top works well because it almost flares out at the bottom but the top part is very close to my body and the ruffle/zipper detail draws the eyes up. Finish the look with comfortable riding boots and lipstick and I'm ready for Sunday Funday!

Both tops are from my very stylish friend, Sasha. I keep wearing so many of her clothes on my blog that I'm starting to think I should give her her own source when listing my resources!

Wine Tasting in Wine Burgundy and Chambray

The Sunday after the art show we went down to the Daejeon Wine Festival, which is amazing. You buy a wine glass for $3 and try wine (for free!) from all over the world.

Because I had been wearing heels -standing and dancing- for about 12 hours the night of the art show, I just wanted to wear something really comfortable if I was going to be standing a long time again. To me, nothing says comfort more than leggings and flats. Of course, you can't wear leggings without the perfect top because as we know leggings are NOT pants. I don't even know what to call this burgundy thing - it's silhouette is that of a dress but it's just way too short for that. And I think it was Tim Gunn that said if you don't know what it is then it's definitely a top.

The exposed shoulders on this top just wasn't going to cut it with the fall weather so FINALLY I got to pull out my new chambray shirt! I love a good chambray because it's so versatile; that's gotta be why it's so popular. Just like a good pair of jeans is a go-to, so can a chambray shirt. I like that it dresses down this outfit just a little bit but still looks polished.

What's your favorite way to wear chambray?

Weekend Warrior in Seoul

This weekend my boyfriend and I went to see Avenue Q, the Sesame Street musical for adults. The show was so entertaining and hilarious and the Charlotte Theater was amazing - no bad seats in the house. We went to a matinee showing and then had a night on the town. It was so much fun and it was nice to get out of town and do something different!

Dressing for a weekend in Seoul can be kind of a pain in the neck sometimes. Especially with the weather that we've had lately. SO SO SO humid and rainy and mostly hot except when the wind hits you just right. Waking up early on a Saturday morning - especially after a wine & cheese ladies night - isn't my forte so this is what I grabbed in a hurry. Wanted something cute, comfortable, and functional. Because of the rain, I wanted to wear my new boots and this dress is too short not to wear something underneath it, hence the leggings. It's a Korean dress so it wasn't exactly made for ladies with a derriere. I also picked this dress because it could go from day to night. I had packed wedge heels and fuchsia tights to change into later but we ended up not going to a club, instead opting for a hole-in-the-wall pub. To finish off the look, I added one of my favorite necklaces. It's from this amazing boutique in Little Five Points, Atlanta called Cultural Acc'nts which sells beautiful African-inspired jewelry and clothes.

So that was my weekend! What do you like to wear for a weekend trip away?
