V is for Victory

Hello lovelies!
My name is Jessica, but most of my friends call me Jmo.
I am an artist and fellow vintage-inspired fashion lover, like our fabulous Lindsey-Dish here.
And today! I'm going to give a short tutorial on how to create a "Victory Roll".

Victory Rolls are far easier than they look. Take it from me... I am 25 years old and I still do not know how to properly curl my own hair. (Wait, you're supposed to plug in the rollers first??!?)
If I can do it, you can do it. We can do it!

So. Why rock the Victory Roll? Well, I think it's a classic, fun, sassy, and poised look that adds a little funky and fun flair to any vintage or non-vintage inspired look.
Plus, who doesn't want to feel a lil' Rockabilly every once and a while?
Ready? Let's begin!

OOTD Lately

Sometimes it just feels glorious to get a bright, spankin' new white tee, don't it?
Oi, I haven't done a post in a while! Mi Scusi. A lot has been been happening at work, having visitors, vacation, trying to figure out how to pay bills in a new place... life, ya know. Being busy also makes it harder to research what shiny new play toy I want next (DSLR camera). So bear with me, please! If you follow me on instagram, I apologize for the redundancies of these OOTD photos. If you don't, you can follow me on http://instagram.com/lindseydish. Also comment below with your instagram name if you also OOTD from time to time (yes, I changed it to a verb right there!)

This gorgeous pastel 60's-ish housedress I found at New2U (like, one of the ONLY thrift stores in Singapore; to be so limited in thrift store selections severely depressed me for a week.) Why do I look like I'm doing a bad job pretending to be a CIA agent? Watch less Scandal, Lindsey...
Black, white, and mint. So fresh and clean, son!
So I bought these pants because I sometimes forget I'm a fat-bottom girl. Tried 'em on at home and hated them until I found out about this tumblr, Giant Pants of the 30's. Realized I could totally work with this. I now love them and will be doing a proper post in the future about these.
It's my birthday and I'll get a kitschy if I want to! I told you I was currently obsessed with fruit jewelry.
Sucker for sunhats. But I guess you can't blame me with this translucent-pale skin.
Another find from New2U. One exciting thing about living in Singapore is being able to dip into different fashion styles from other cultures & countries. This top is inspired by a traditional Chinese cheongsam/qipao. I also want to get my hands on lots of Indian kurta tops.
No lie. What I usually wear when I'm not working.

Gimmie Some Sugar!

I saw this top and knew it was going to be mine even if it didn't fit my North American bustline. I was shopping in the maze of Bugis Street where they sell tons and tons of cheap, trendy and adorable clothing from China. The catch is that they won't let you try things on; you can hold it up to your body but that's it. So even though the petite sales lady looked skeptically at my lovely lady lumps, I instantly said, "I'll take it!" For $10 I was willing to take a chance on this pastel perfection with embroidered cupcakes. AND it's got polka dots and a crisp white collar. I  It's unfortunate that my camera in it's pathetic-dying state didn't do this flawless pale pink top justice.

Just Call Me Daisy

So I chopped off all of my hair on Friday. I went to Team Salon in Jem recommended by a friend and told the salon stylist: "I hate my hair. I don't know what to do with it. Cut it off at the chin maybe?" I was nervous but I knew it needed to be done. And I walked out of there lovinglovingloving it. My hair dresser, Shan, did an impeccable job making sure everything was cut to a T (I think he was a perfectionist; it was fantastic). No regrets. I feel 10 lbs lighter getting all that damaged, dry and tangly mess of curls gone. It's easy to maintain, makes my red hair look super clean and shiny, and is actually very versatile. I can still do my big poufy 50's pompadour or victory curls, I can go AMTM-style and slick it back, I can style it every-day smooth bob or my current favorite - this flirty flip look that reminds me of the roaring 20's. Just call me Daisy.

When was the last time you chopped off your hair? Was it a good experience?

Singapore Staycationing

A little while back, my boyfriend and I went on an adventure. And by adventure, I mean we jumped in a taxi and then a motorized boat on a track. So really, like an adventure for 98-year-old. We've recently moved to Singapore and we've been having so much fun having a staycation every weekend. This day we picked the River Safari. I got to be honest though, if you decide to come here I wouldn't put it on the top of your list. There's mostly a bunch of catfish in murky water - if you wanna see that, I'll put you in touch with some of my Georgia friends! To be fair, we apparently went a couple days before the "official opening" (which we didn't know about until later, grrr) but I'm not sure that matters much. Either way, we still had a great time just putzing around and exploring together.

So about my explorin' clothes: I recently bought this polo on a trip to the New2U thrift store in Bugis, one of the FEW thrift stores in Singapore. You heard me right... I can't seem to find much information about thrift stores here besides a handful. Please tell me they are just hidden away in a part of the city I haven't discovered yet!! I'm typically not a big fan of polos - almost too preppy for me - but I literally can't say no to mint recently. I decided to get it (who can beat the $4 price tag?) and work out how to wear it later. And by golly, I figured it out! Keep it prissy and lady-like by buttoning and brooching it up.
How do you wear a polo?

My camera is dying a slow, painful death so I only snapped a couple (of terrible quality) with my camera and the rest ended up on my instagram. Which reminds me... anyone got suggestions on a DSLR camera a fashion blogger would love...?
