Rainbow Bus

Funny story about taking these photos: there's a little parking lot near my house that where all these 80's-looking buses park for the night. I've been eyeing the perfect one, making notes of the varying colored stripes to snap some photos in front of them (cause that's how my mind works - always assessing areas for future shoots). It was early so not all the buses were there yet but that was perfect because there wasn't a lot of activity going on. We were going along our merry way, voguing it up in front of this bus when a guy climbed in and drove off! Lol. I just had to laugh because there went our "shoot location"! But it doesn't matter, because I still got what I needed. :)

For me, I guess it's not a weekend until I'm wearing a crop top. I try to buy clothes that could typically be worn for work so I can get more wear out of them and I feel more comfortable dressing somewhat conservatively. But for my days off, I just don't want to feel like an elementary teacher.  So I took this sweet floral button up and just tied it - voila! Ready to party. I love this top because with the pockets on the bust and the puffy wide-shoulders it reminds me of the 40's.

This past weekend I've been working on my new upcoming Travel Bug post for Modcloth! I'm so excited to show you all the photos and show you my favorite places in Singapore. Stay tuned!

What have you been up to all weekend? For my American readers, did you have a good Memorial day?

Smitten Kitten

I love any holiday themed fashion blog post - even if it is a little late!
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love Hello Kitty and this dress.
First of all, I'm currently an elementary teacher which means I'm inundated with adorableness from all angles - whether it's the kids themselves or the things they drag into my classroom, such as Hello Kitty paraphernalia. Maybe I've been in Asia too long, but I can't help it. I want to ask every little girl, "Dahling, where did you get that divine Hello Kitty tote bag?"
...which is hard because 1) their answer is most likely to be, "Dunno. Mom got it." and 2) I try very hard to focus on the process of their learning and their efforts as a good student and friend - not on what they are wearing. But y'all! They're so gosh-darn cute!
And when I saw this basket bag walking down the streets of Chinatown (I actually think this might be a knock-off, realized after the fact) I literally did a 180. Had to have it. Don't need your Mom's shopping advice after all, Maggie.

Of course, nothing is paired more to perfection than with this delightful dress - the fit and flair silhouette that feels made for me (fantastic length and all!), the fresh pink and white stripes, and crisp pleats. Did I mention I got this for $8? I would be drooling over it all but I don't think my date would find that very romantic… maybe.

Happy Valentine's day! I hope you had a great day cuddled up to the loved one of your choosing and looked fabulous doing it! <3

Life's a Beach

My boyfriend and I went to Sentosa Island in Singapore last week. I love that an hour on the subway and bam! I'm at the beach. It's heavenly. Sentosa is such a strange place to me. It's like no other beach I've ever been to. It's got a very suburban feel to it. Everything is carefully manicured and there's so much green grass and perfect flowerbeds along the pathways to the beach. I wouldn't say it's got that bohemian feel that a lot of other beach places have, but it doesn't make it any less fun. It's also nice to see so many different Singaporean and expat families from all over the world cutting back and enjoying the sun and surf, sorta speak.

Wanted to keep my outfit simple for the beach - bikini top and skater skirt and voila! Easy peasy. I added my mom's wooden strawberry earrings she had from the 80's and red lipstick just to give a little extra punch. Wrapped it all up with my cat eye sunglasses to finish the vintage vibe.

What's your favorite thing to wear to the beach?

Fresh Fruity Pickin's

It's so much fun noticing a trend from the inside out, sorta speak. I've been reading Style Feed, a book about popular bloggers (although it was published back in 2011 which is ancient in the fashion blogger world!) And the author, Susie Bubble, talks about the push and pull of fashion - where do some trends originate from: the streets or the catwalk?

I started to notice a trend of fruit fashion in a lot of my favorite fashion bloggers so I immediately assumed that it was going to be a big trend this year that everyone had known about but me. So I jumped on google ready to see all the fantastic runway photos with fruits blazing from Cara Delevingne's chest. Couldn't find any except for ones from Spring 2011 (how did I not know that was a trend then?!?!) Which leads to me to think... maybe the fashion bloggers are reviving this trend for 2014...? I also struggled to find a cornucopia of fruit fashion to pick from a wide range of online sites. Although, slowly but surely things are starting to pop up. Modcloth is leading the way on this one which makes sense, being that they are lovers of novelty items and prints. I've also had my eye on an adorable banana tote bag at H&M.

Regardless of where it started this time around, I couldn't be more pleased! I want all the watermelon, cherries, apples, pears, peaches, and bananas I can squeeze into my closet! What do you think of fruit fashion?

And here's my own growing collection, as seen from instagram! The strawberry earrings are actually my mom's from the 80's. :)

Just Call Me Daisy

So I chopped off all of my hair on Friday. I went to Team Salon in Jem recommended by a friend and told the salon stylist: "I hate my hair. I don't know what to do with it. Cut it off at the chin maybe?" I was nervous but I knew it needed to be done. And I walked out of there lovinglovingloving it. My hair dresser, Shan, did an impeccable job making sure everything was cut to a T (I think he was a perfectionist; it was fantastic). No regrets. I feel 10 lbs lighter getting all that damaged, dry and tangly mess of curls gone. It's easy to maintain, makes my red hair look super clean and shiny, and is actually very versatile. I can still do my big poufy 50's pompadour or victory curls, I can go AMTM-style and slick it back, I can style it every-day smooth bob or my current favorite - this flirty flip look that reminds me of the roaring 20's. Just call me Daisy.

When was the last time you chopped off your hair? Was it a good experience?
