Little Shoulders on the Prairie

I have been so inspired lately by Free People  and the whole bohemian look - 60's and 70's influence, prairie dresses, casual-throw-on-oh-this-ol-thing?, and lot of bold eclectic jewelry. Normally I style this dress a lot more polished and prim with the puffy sleeves pulled up and a wide belt around, making the skirt puff out as well. I love how versatile it is and I've never actually had a red dress before! The only meh thing about this dress is that it has an odd empire-waist line. This dress also reminds me of all the little sundresses I would wear as a little girl. Just throw on a dress and go play in the backyard. Man, I wish I could get some of those I had in my size now!

This will probably be my last blog post until next week as I'll be in Bali (but get ready for bunches of blog posts when I get back! Whoo-hoo!) In the mean time, if you wanna follow my trip, add me on instagram!

What summer style are you feeling lately?

India, Ecuador, and Deck 4

I love love love love love LOVE this shirt. I wish I had bought a bazillion more. I wear it all the time because it's so perfect: it's super comfortable and such a bright, happy pink with beautiful gold embroidery. Just gorgeous. It's also this light weight material that keeps me warm or cool; I especially wear this shirt on airplanes.

I bought it in India, which is one more reason why I love it. My favorite travel souvenirs are things I can wear and every time I do, I think about that trip. Our India trip holds a special place in my heart because it's was Stephen and my 1st trip together. We had been dating a month when he asked me to go with him. I thought he was crazy but luckily, one of my friends convinced me I would be insane to turn down this opportunity. We had lots of ups and downs while traveling in India but that trip was what solidified our relationship.

I'm also wearing my Flips Bare shoes which are very obviously inspired by Ecuadorian textiles. I did my student teaching in Ecuador and had the time of my life. It's my ultimate goal to take Stephen there and show him all my favorite places. So of course, when I saw these shoes I had to have them. Added bonus: they are so comfortable! And while talking about Ecuador, I'm wearing my Panama hat to hide the fact that I badly in need of a haircut. Did you know that Panama hats are actually originally from Ecuador?

I wore this outfit to my French class tonight. I took these photos in the parking deck to escape from the summer showers. Can you tell how utterly humid it is? I'm soaking through my shirt. But hey! The consolation price of Singapore heat is that I actually have tan legs! (I mean, tan for me).

What souvenirs have you picked up on your trips?

Happy as a Lark

We checked out the Jurong Bird Park a few weeks ago, further continuing our Singapore staycation. We were probably more excited than neccesary because we viewed this as a recon-research mission. Our group of friends back in Korea we had nicknamed the "Birds of War" and every member was a bird that matched their personality. The pathetic part (besides grown-ups pretending their animals) was that our knowledge of birds was very limited.  Not to mention, my boyfriend insisted I was a turkey or chicken (isn't he sweet?) while I was adamant that I was definitely a peacock. Luckily, we found a bird for me that we both agreed on: starlings - amethyst starling to be exact. They are the most vibrantly colored purple bird I have ever seen.

And of course, when one goes to the bird park, one must wear their bird dress! This print is so much fun because from far away it just looks like a geometric print but at closer examination, it's actually a big ol' flock of birds! Not to mention its fit is sublime and it's probably the most perfect dress I have for this kind of heat; the perfect amount of lady-like coverage without too much fabric. Also to hide the effects of heat, I threw my new thrifted scarf in my hair and secured it with another bow.

Mint Juleps

There are so many things I love about this outfit I don't know what I want to talk about first. Also, I should point out I almost  titled this post "I don't think you're ready for these jellies". Get it?! I gotta admit, I'm pretty proud of that. I just don't think it fits the theme of the photos. Maybe for the next time I wear the shoes! Which are these plastic slip-ons with canvas flowers on them. I love them. They are just funky and girly enough and they are PURPLE. Even better, when it rains there's no worry about ruining your shoes! Singaporeans don't even bother with rain boots; it would be way too hot! So these kind of shoes are the perfect solution.

The blog post title I did settle on is Mint Juleps because 1) they are delicious (duh), 2) these photos remind me of Georgia front porch summer living which is my favorite thing to do in the world, 3) this outfit looks very southern lady-eqsue with a hint of Singaporean casualness and 4) I'm obsessed with the color mint at the moment!

But let's get down to brass tax. Or rather gold. I'm wearing two of my all-time favorite necklaces. I wear them constantly when I want to feel lady-like. My $1 thrifted heart-shaped pearl necklace and my personalized Tinkerbell necklace, also heart-shaped. I mean, y'all, IT'S TINKERBELL WITH MY NAME ON IT. Do I even need to explain…? Got it at the Magic Kingdom - my first and only time going. Tink is the Disney character that my mom has bestowed upon me, in a matter of speaking. She says Tinkerbell always reminds me of her probably because her wide hips a la the belted pear. (and probably her stubborn nature as well!)

And now on to the skirt! Sheer is here for the summer and I love how this one has the clever sheer panel at the bottom of the skirt. Who doesn't love a bit of tantalizing knee-cleavage… I bought it at Bugis St Market, which is a center of shopping MAYHEM. It's shops after shops all crammed together selling bunch of cheap but trendy clothes, shoes and accessories. Many times, I don't even mean to go there but it's like I get sucked. It's a vortex, no doubt about it. But either way, I love the finds!

Have you purchased any perfect finds lately? I wanna hear!

Swag in Medan, Indonesia

Things have been pretty busy lately. We've had two expat friends from Korea visit us on two different weeks, lots of stuff going on for work, getting into the swing of studying French and more intensively blogging… but I still have enough time to get a bit itchy about my next trip. Luckily, I'm going to BALI next week with one of my good chingus! I'm so so so so excited. I figured in the mean time I'd post a few of our travel photos from Medan, "the worst place in the South East Asia" from a few weeks ago before I get swamped with new photos.
Have you got anything exciting coming up for the summer?
