Basic Boho

When Carly from A Walk in the Park posted a photo-inspiration of the little black dressed styled bohemianly (yes, I just made "boho" into an adverb!) I instantly thought, Hey! I can do that too! It was such an exciting realization because I already had the essentials in my closet! I love to always be assessing, judging and figuring out how I can emulate another blogger's outfit or a perfect a pinterest style. But sometimes I have to shut it down. The thoughts in my head start saying, "You have to buy that. You need that. That will be perfect and give you everything you need."
Like I said. Shut. It. Down.
I don't want my life to be about always buying things. I don't want my blog to be either. I mean, I love a good shopping spree same as the next girl. But I constantly try to minimize my purchases. At the end of the day, I would rather spend my money on plane tickets and make memories.
So anyways, back to this outfit. I didn't need to buy anything! Yay! It was the perfect casual and easy outfit to meet Sara for coffee.

Coco Chanel, The Witch of Fashion

Halloween falls on a busy work day for me this year and I haven't had a great track record this year with holidays so I didn't go all out like I normally do. But I couldn't just do nothing rien. Easiest thing in the world - grab your little black dress and classic witch hat et voila! It was so much fun to go retro and put on this looker; I got this dress at the thrift store and if it isn't the most flattering thing I own. I love the midi-length and that everything is so very covered up but sexy at the same time. And it's so stretchy and comfy. Parfait! Don some drop-pearl earrings, classic vintage make-up and these killer cat-eye sunglasses and I got myself a Chanel-esque witch. (or maybe Audrey-ish?)
What'd you wear for Halloween this year?

My fake store front in Chinatown. If you come into the back, I'll show you my bubbling caldron full of Chanel N°5!

Slip into Something Cool

I've been wanting to wear this slip out for about… oh, forever. Maybe it was the rectification of the 90's but I felt like the need to wear this slip out in public has been stronger than ever lately. But here's the catch: I felt I had to style it to look casual and effortless, not fussy and old lady-ish. Easy peasy, I though. Wrong. The length is actually just a smidge too long for my short frame and everything just looked off. I was going for "oh, this old thing?" and instead it looked like I was trying too much. How in the world does someone succeed in the "throwing this thing on because I can't be bothered"?

Either way, I found this slip at a Korean thrift store. Did you notice the butterfly lace appliqué on my leg…? Like I mentioned, it's a little too long, so I knew it would look better hiked up a bit with a belt (obviously, my go-to). I decided to go with my favorite brown woven belt. I've always heard folks saying, "You can't wear brown with black! You just can't!" It's one of my favorite things to do. I think by pairing brown with black, it instantly and easily changes an outfit that could become so dressy into something casual. I feel as long as your accessories don't clash, pairing black and brown together is fair game; they both in the neutral family, after all. I threw this fantastic military-istic jacket I got at a clothing swap with the outfit to perfect the toned-down vibe of the outfit.
What do you think - ready to wear your nighties as day wear?
