90's Swim Suit and Jean Shorts

I needed a suit to swim in where I wasn't worrying about having to pull up the top or tug down the bottoms (you know the struggle). So when I saw this on top of my mom's pile of give-away clothes, I figured I would only wear it for working out. The suit seemed dated and tacky at first but the more and more I wore it, the more I fell in love.

First of all, I feel amazing in this suit. Because I don't have to worry about my bits falling out, I feel much more confident moving around in it. And by miracles of miracles, it fits like a glove! The cut on the neck, the open back and the high cut on the legs are also so flattering. But I think the thing that really makes it is the clever pattern design. For this pear-shaped lady, the bright stripes on top make my bust seem larger and the dark stripes on the bottom make my derriere smaller (optimal illusions for the win!)

I don't know what I'm going to do when this thing goes. There are a few tiny little wholes on the bum that I have meticulously hand-sewed.
Has anyone seen a similar suit to this one?

What's your favorite swim suit this summer?

Mixing Patterns and Getting Ready In A Flash

Last weekend the boyfriend and I were lounging in the pool when we decided to jump up and go check out a new cafe. The caveat was that I had to get ready quickly. Ugggggggh, I'm not always the best at that especially with wet hair and no outfit planned. But I lived up to my promise with this fun but simple outfit! I hid my pool hair with a lime green bow and only needed minimal make-up with my orange-red lipstick. I grabbed these two cotton pieces to match my scarf & vintage vibe. I absolutely love how they are two different prints but they compliment each other so well. I think it goes so well nicely together because the top is only blue & white and the skirt is only green & white. See how that works? Two colors and there's a common color shared between the two items. Easy-peasy!
It was a good thing we ended up leaving the pool too because we almost got caught in a sudden downpour after we left.
What's your quick tips for getting ready in a snap?

Not a weird texture on the bag - just rain! :)

Winter Wheat

My house back home (I guess it's technically my parent's house now but I will always think of it as mine) is filled with all these delicious vintage things. I was bound to love all things old when you have old ships, Grandfather's varsity jacket, and deteriorating books hanging from the walls and on the shelves. I really really wanted to do a photo shoot with our vintage typewriter, but alas time just slipped away from me. Luckily, I got these shots! My mom has 3 brownie cameras. As a kid I was fascinated by them and wanted to fix 'em up and use them.

My brother took these photos at a field near our house. After living in cities for four years, I keep forgetting how rural everything back home feels in comparison. I always think of the suburban shopping centers and the busy highway with all the restaurants, Wal-Marts and such but I forget that when you turn down a road you run into beautiful hilly fields and maybe even a few horses, goats or cows!

The Easy Breezy

My boyfriend described this outfit as "Elenore Roosevelt going to a rave." He's a self-proclaimed pop culture (and fashion) idiot but man, sometimes he is dead-on. I get a very 1940's vibe every time I wear this olive-green pencil skirt. As a last minute decision, I slipped on my peacock hair clip that I think really clinched the vintage feel. But with a little modern twist via my see-through lace top.

I've only got three more days in Singapore before I'm back home in the sweet ol' state of Georiga. I can't wait to have some real winter posts up for y'all soon. Oh yeah, and to see all my family and friends of course!

Winter White and Evergreen

I bought this coat on one of my thrift store trips for $10! Even though it's not the thickest, I was drawn to the green and pink plaid and I had to have it. I knew it would be the perfect Christmas coat, with the evergreen - though a little nontraditional with the hints of pink. I based the rest of my outfit around one of this season's trend: winter white. I didn't want to clash with the pink by adding red so I went with simple white and a little gold flourish on my shirt's lapels. The trick to wearing all white is the same trick as wearing all black - making sure you have different textures to break it all up. This is a more simple holiday look than I usually go for, but I think the coat really ties it all together.
What did you wear for this Christmas? Hope everyone had a great cozy day!
