Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

This post was so much fun to shoot with my mom. Looking through her closet she didn't have anything red which is what I really wanted to wear with these fabulous shoes. After combing through her closet, I remember I had a summer dress I had left here. Put a long sleeve shirt underneath and a cozy flannel scarf over and summer is a long, distant memory!
Now back to these shoes. The heels are so high but they are so comfortable! And THE BOWS. And it's animal print. They make me feel so glamorous!

I sincerely hope that you have a wonderful Christmas filled with love no matter where you live and who you are with. I am so blessed to be spending the holidays with my family and my heart feels so full.
To all my readers, Merry Christmas!

Just Slip a Sable Under the Tree

Saturday night I went to a Christmas party and knew exactly what I was going to wear. My mom has had this amazing tartan wrap skirt in her closet - it's excellent quality wool, with the blanket-like fringe running down the edge of the wrap. The pictures don't show it, but it's pretty sexy (more so that I was anticipating!) because when I walk, the skirt opens up to show a lot of leg.
To give the outfit a little funk, I added my mom's animal print sandal heels over tights. Then to add to the holiday feel, a necklace of pearls and gold chains and I pinned a gold bow to my shirt. Finish it off with a red lip and my little tassel purse and I'm ready for some holiday cheer!
Hope your holiday season is going just as glamorously!

Winter White and Evergreen

I bought this coat on one of my thrift store trips for $10! Even though it's not the thickest, I was drawn to the green and pink plaid and I had to have it. I knew it would be the perfect Christmas coat, with the evergreen - though a little nontraditional with the hints of pink. I based the rest of my outfit around one of this season's trend: winter white. I didn't want to clash with the pink by adding red so I went with simple white and a little gold flourish on my shirt's lapels. The trick to wearing all white is the same trick as wearing all black - making sure you have different textures to break it all up. This is a more simple holiday look than I usually go for, but I think the coat really ties it all together.
What did you wear for this Christmas? Hope everyone had a great cozy day!

Mixing Cozy Winter Prints

When I left the house in this outfit, I thought the outfit was pretty toned down a maybe even a little boring (I also didn't realize how wrinkly my skirt was!) but when I took pictures, I realized there's more color than than I had thought. Most of the time, I consciously try to mix prints - it's my new fashion obsession - but I didn't try with this. It just happened so effortless. Honestly, this sweater is my go-to sweater to throw on top of everything because it's so cute and matches everything.

The one upside of the sudden drop in temperature is the chance to wear this wool skirt. The length and fullness of the skirt is perfect. I also love my plaid shirt with the gingham detail (it's also on the underside of the collar). I used to think of plaid shirts as too masculine for my style and I'm so glad I've come around on that - first off plaid shirts are a haven for so much color. And y'all know how much I love color! And this shirt is so flattering with it's tailoring.

To finish the look, I wore my hiking booties. I love the overall look because with the boots and plaid, it looks a little outdoorsy.

Alrighty, and now the moment you've all been waiting for...

Sweater Weather Begins (Warm Knits, Cool Camis, and $10 Purses)

The inspiration for today's outfit came from Megan of Briar Rose. I loved how she paired a loose-fitting sweater with an A-line skirt. I wouldn't have even though to put these two things together because they don't show off my waist. But somehow it works - the shortness of the skirt balances out the fullness. You can't tell in the pictures but the sweater also has great movement so when I move you can tell there's a person inside it and not a blob. When I found out the weather was going to be 60°F (15°C), I instantly knew I wanted to wear this loose-knit sweater I got from a friend leaving the country. It has that fall, cozy look & feel to it without being too hot. I paired it with one of my favorite trends this fall - plaid.

Underneath the sweater, I have a camisole. But you can't see it, right? Exaaactly. I bought a camisole that matched my skin tone last year and now I can't believe I went 25+ years without one! (I was most likely a very fashionable baby and probably needed one, I tell you.) I think I literally wear it once a week and am scrounging around in the dirty clothes looking for it all the time. If you don't have one - GET ONE. Mine is this beautiful silk material that feels and fits like a dream and it has adjustable straps. A decent skin-colored camisole is one of those staples that gets over-looked but is always handy.

One other lil tidbit about this outfit is this adorable purple purse. In Korea, they have these stores we call "man-won shops"; man-won meaning $10 in Korean. They sell all different kinds of bags and they're ALL TEN DOLLARS. It's hard to pass one by without peeking inside. Being that I have a soft spot for things that are purple, lizard-texture and with bows, I naturally felt this bag was made for me. The best part: you can change the length of the chain strap!

3 Ways to Style a Maxi Dress and a Plaid Button-Down

I totally forgot that I had this dress! I found it balled up on a shelf, thrown there while packing for my trip home this summer. 3 months later and I delightfully found it! I had only worn it once or twice so I felt like I was getting new, free clothes (don't you love when that happens?! It's like finding $10 in your coat pocket from last winter.) I instantly knew I wanted to wear this adorable Western-style plaid shirt with it but I wasn't sure how I wanted to wear it. I tried it a bazillion different ways and couldn't figure out how. Then I realized what an opportunity this is!  I decided I'd just let y'all decide how you like it!

I originally had the plaid shirt under my dress but when I was taking pictures but I didn't feel comfortable half-way undressing in front of the old men looking on at the park. So sorry, no pictures of that outfit. Instead, I went with three looks: Prim & Proper, Country Cool, and Girly Grunge.

For the Prim & Proper look, I buttoned the shirt all the way up and belted it. The great thing about this shirt is the beautiful fit! It's tailored to perfection. For the Country Cool outfit, I got rid of the belt and just  tied the ends at my waist. Another variation I could have done was button it up all the way, and then tie it at the waist. For the last look, Girly Grunge, I just let everything hang loose - in a matter of speaking! Whether we like it or not, I believe the 90's revival is happening. I'm not the biggest fan of grunge (big-bottomed ladies don't usually favor wrapping busy plaid prints around their hips) but you can't disagree that it does have a certain effortless, laid-back feel about it. Another variation on the last look would be leave the shirt open, but then add the belt; though it would take away from the grunge-inspired look.

I know the difference in styling of these outfits isn't huge but it does go to show ya that just because you wear it a certain way the first time, doesn't mean you can't mix it up next time! What's your favorite look?

[Also, let's talk about the apparent elephant in the room. My camera and editing skills. I am not gifted (as of yet) in editing my photos and my camera is incompetent for the things I want it to do. I apologize for the wonky photos, but not too much because I still love them anyways.]

Prim & Proper:

I just have to say: LOOK AT MY NECKLACE. Isn't it stunning?! My good friend, Sasha, left the country (BIG TEARS) and gave me this! Whaaaat? Her taste is impeccable and she's way too giving.
