White Scalloped Top and Nude Pleated Skirt

Why haven't I worn this outfit sooner?? I was toying around with the idea of playing with this season's hugest trends - whites & nudes. And then it seemed like the outfit made itself. It's such a simple look but has so many beautiful details that I love!

First of all this, this top. My mom pulled it out of a Goodwill rack and thank heaven's that that woman can spot quality from a mile away. This beauty has stunning embroidered flowers and scalloped edges. I resisted the urge to tuck it into my skirt (old habits die hard) and I'm glad I did. It would have been a pity to cover up any inch of this darling.

I was kinda over this skirt for a while, thinking "Why in the world did I buy anything beige?? It's so not my color." But I think pairing it with white brings new freshness into an actually precious skirt. I love anything with pleats and it's got the extra clever little ruffled layer at the bottom.

The shirt and skirt were a great canvas to wear some of my new favorite accessories. I found this gold pineapple necklace and I cannot stop wearing it - same goes for this tasseled-colorful-gold-chain-beaded collection of bracelets.  I wrapped a scarf around my bag for another pop of color, added a belt to accent my waist, slipped on a pair of nude heels (utterly and always obsessed with these) and voila

How are you wearing the white & nude trend these days?

Summer Basics

These have been my summer basics on repeat. Whenever I just have no clue what the occasion calls for, I grab this. It fits into my casual vibe I've been feeling lately but just dressy enough for going out. I love that it's also subtly sexy with the transparent-gauzy material of the shirt. I can't get enough of blue and white (as you might have heard me mention before) or embroidery details. I saw this shirt and HAD TO HAVE IT (it didn't hurt it was only $5! Bam!) And of course, my H&M hat. I wear that thing as much as I can!
My favorite favorite nude wedges died on me and a single sad tear fell down my face when I had to finally admit I needed to get rid of them. I traded them out for these slides and honestly, I'm just as much as in love with these. They remind me of Bianca and Danielle from Kastor & Pollux. Time will tell if they are as comfortable as my old wedges.
What are your summer basics right now?

Ballerina Skirt at Art Show Opening Night

This is one my new favorite outfits. I'm obsessed with the grown-up tutu/tulle trend. I got this skirt from one of my dearest friends (Thank you, Kristen!!) and I've been dying to wear it. I think I've tried it on in my apartment a million times trying to figure out the perfect outfit. I've been waiting to wear it because - even though I'm a firm believe on not "saving" the good stuff for special occasions - I knew it would be just the thing for my art show opening.

This ensemble made me feel so girly and pretty. The lace, the tulle, the heels, pearls, ribbon and red lipstick. It's nice to get fully dressed up sometimes and pretend to be a lady. I wish I had more opportunities to do so.  I believe you should have an emotional connection with your clothes. It makes my style more personal and I like to think people can intuitively tell how much I enjoy being in my clothes. Life is too short to not wear clothes you love and feel amazing in.

I must admit I was a bit apprehensive of wearing so much volume on my hips but with the wide belt and the smaller top, the proportions work well. Besides, Kristina Uriegas-Reyes more articulately explains why curvy ladies should wear petticoats and tutus.

Okay, let me get out 3 more things I love about wearing this outfit and then I promise to stop rambling. One: I live the small details of the tiniest bit of edge: the gold chain, the leather jacket, and the wide leather belt. Two: the bodice is actually a waaaay-too short dress. Three: I bought the necklace for a $1 but I hated it. It was too tight and high on me. I added the ribbon and presto! I love it now.

The art show was so much fun and I have so much fun mingling with Daejeon's finest. Everyone got dressed up and looked spectacular. Not to mention all my friends' exquisite art work! Thanks to everyone who came out to support local art.

Cheating Fall: Creating an Autumn Outfit with Summer Clothes

I'm dying to wear fall clothing because I'm getting bored with my summer ones but the weather isn't cooperating.  So I decided to cheat a little and wear summer pieces that are in fall colors. I kind of think the outfit turned out to be a little 90's-inspired but maybe I've just been watching too much Friends circa '94. What I really love about this outfit is how high waisted the skirt is and the blousey-ness of the top. I wasn't really crazy about this top before because I didn't think it was very flattering (it's a really boxy cut) but with the high-waist and the narrowness of the skirt, I like it a lot more.

I grabbed my leather jacket on the way out because it's started to turn cool in the evenings. I loooove this jacket. I bought it in Coticachi, Ecuador back in university when I was doing a study abroad program. I got it for $60! Coticachi is famous for its' leather products. Streets after streets of knock-out prices on anything made out of leather. We were only given 30 minutes to check out everything which would give any fashionista a heart attack! 30 minutes is definitely not enough time to get your attack down, check out all the styles, prices, and then haggle. Some how I managed to get this by literally running into stores looking for the perfect motorcycle jacket. Luckily for me, the oxblood color is still on trend.

Leather and Lace: Lady-Like Florals and Black

I don't even remember exactly where I got the camisole from but I've had it for years. When I first bought it, I instantly fell in love but I wasn't sure how to wear it. Cleaning out my closet at my parents' house this summer, I found it and was elated. The detail of the lace, the floral print, the shape of the top - I love it all. I also adore this skirt. It's the perfect lady-like length, with the lady-like pleats but it's got the leather waistband, which is so on-trend right now. I like the juxtaposition of the dainty floral top with the more hard black skirt. I think it's an overall interesting contrast and it lets the top be the focal point. To finish the look, I added my most beloved shoes. I got them at one of my favorite Korean thrift stores for $10! I probably would have gotten them for less if I had contained my excitement in the store. They are the perfect shoes. Y'all know my obsession with nude shoes and they are so comfortable!

Something new I tried was bold eyebrows. I can't wear eye make-up for 2 weeks because of my lasik eye surgery so I compensated with the eyebrows, a bold lip color, and glossy cheeks.

Sorry for the terrible quality of photos, my camera has had a mind of its own lately.
